Nagykanizsa, 22 February 1940 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, 1944
Veronika Singer was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau from Nagykanizsa. Her sister, Valeria Singer, worked in the group of prisoners (“Kanada” working squad) sorting the clothes of those murdered upon arrival. She found her mother’s dress with Veronika’s socks in its pocket. Then she realized they had been murdered. Veronika was four when she was killed with her mother, Matild Polacsek.
