Two-year-old Peter was sent with his family members and 13,000 other Jews from Munkács to the ghetto established in the city centre in mid-April 1944. The ghetto inhabitants were deported with five transports. These trains arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau between 22 and 26 May. Most of the community members were murdered in the gas chambers in Birkenau, including Peter.
