Children of Saul

Judit Mellinger

Zilah 1936 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, beginning of June 1944

She lived with his parents and sister in Zilah, Northern Transylvania. In May 1944 they were imprisoned in the local ghetto, then they were transferred to the Klein brick factory in Somlyócsehi, a collection camp that was set up five kilometres from the city of Szilágysomlyó. Between 31 May and 6 June 1944, 7851 Jews were deported from here with three trains to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Judit and her sister, the ten-year-old Agnes, were among them. Both of them were sent to a gas chamber immediately after their arrival.
