Ten-year-old Gyurika was thrown into a ghetto in May 1944, along with his family members and ten thousand other Miskolc Jews. The area was evacuated on 5 June, when they were driven to the Tatar Street brick factory, from where deportation trains to Auschwitz-Birkenau departed between 12 and 15 June. Most of the deportees were killed upon arrival, Gyuri was among them.
