Ágnes Mellinger

Zilah 1934 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, beginning of June 1944

Ágnes lived with his parents and younger sister in Zilah, Northern Transylvania. In May 1944 they were imprisoned in the local ghetto, then they were transferred to the Klein brickworks in Somlyócsehi, a collection camp that was set up five kilometres from the city of Szilágysomlyó. Between 31 May and 6 June 1944, in all 7851 Jews were deported from here with three trains to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Ágnes and her older sister, the eight-year-old Judit, were among them. Both of them were sent to a gas chamber immediately after their arrival.
