The Jews of Pápa were put into a ghetto on 1 June 1944. A month later, they were driven to the fertilizer factory on the outskirts of the town and deported a few days later. The train arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau on 9 July, where four-year-old Frigyes was immediately sent to a gas chamber.
