Klára Spilman

Nagyberezna, 1940 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, 1 June 1944

Yitzhak and Dvora Spilman’s four-year-old daughter lived with her parents in Nagyberezna, Subcarpathia. On 16 April 1944, at dawn, the Hungarian gendarmerie ordered the Jews to leave their homes, giving them only 6 hours’ respite. The victims were taken to the collection camp at the Moskovits brickyard in Ungvár (Uzhhorod) that same day. From there, the Jews of Nagyberezna were deported at the end of May. Most probably they arrived at Auschwitz-Birkenau on June 1, where the vast majority of them were murdered. The little Klára and her mother were executed in one of the gas chambers.
