Bátyu, 1935 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, 18 May 1944
Salamon Fehér and his wife Tobie Róth had been living in Bátyu, Subcarpathia, with their five minor children, 13-year-old Etel, 11-year-old Malvin, nine-year-old Sheindel, seven-year-old Moses and five-year-old Sari. On 16 April 1944 they were deported by the Hungarian gendarmerie, along with the rest of the community, to the collection camp at the Beregszász (Berehovo) brickworks. In mid-May, the Jews of Bátyú were probably deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau with the first transport. Upon arrival, the vast majority of them were murdered, including the five children of the Fehér family.
