Children of Saul

Sándor Grausz

Gyömöre, 21 June 1942 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, 17 June 1944

Eight children of the extended Grausz family living in the village of Gyömöre (Győr County) were killed during the Holocaust. In May 1944, the members of the small community were deported to the ghetto of Győrsziget and from there to the collection camp on Budai road in Győr. A freight train carrying Jews from Győr and the surrounding area arrived at the Birkenau ramp on 17 June. Ilona Pollák’s two young sons, the two-year-old Sándor and the six-year-old Róbert were sent to a gas chamber together with their mother.
