Children of Saul

András (Mojse) Weiss

Szabadka (Subotica), 1935 – Auschwitz-Birkenau, 29 June 1944

József Weiss and Regina Mermelstein and their two children lived in the house at 28 Petőfi Street in Szabadka (Subotica), a town in the Hungary-annexed Yugoslav territories in 1941. In mid-May 1944, the Jews of Szabadka were moved to designated buildings, and around 20 June they were taken to the Bácsalmás collection camp. From there, on 26 June, they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. András Weiss (9) and Alza (11) were executed there with their mother.
