Budapest, 2 September 1942 – Budapest, winter of 1944-1945

Kati Diamant’s father was drafted to labor service, and her mother was deported to Mauthausen in the fall of 1944. Her other relatives were rounded up by the Hungarian Nazi Arrow Cross. She was left alone at the age of two. She died of hunger or frozen to death in a Budapest air raid shelter with eleven other Jewish orphans.
